I’ve added a WIP gallery. Oh, what does WIP stand for, you ask?
It means: Work In Progress. It’s a common term among illustrators these days.
Even though the images in such gallery have been completed, I decided to name it that way because it shows some of the steps that took to the final result, when the illustration was in fact “work in progress”.
I’ll keep adding them gradually. I don’t have the steps for all the illustrations I’ve made of course. I might have one or two more. I will check.
As you see I sometimes use black and white first and add color at the end, or I start with color from the beginning.
It depends on how I feel about it and the result I want to achieve. I’m still undecided about one method or the other.
When I start painting with grey tones only I feel I can go faster and more comfortably, because I focus on tones and details a lot sooner. The bad side of it is that I hate the coloring process: it’s methodical and requires layers and irritating ways of color picking in Photoshop.
The other method (color from the start) might demand extra thought at the beginning, preferably a palette and more studies. The process might be slower but slightly more controlled color-wise.
This has been my experience so far. I’ll keep alternating these methods and maybe one day I’ll be enlightened and I’ll stick with one only. Or maybe not…Who knows?
